Wandering Bride Ghost Of Holmes Beach

One of my favorite local legends is that of a female ghost who has been spotted as far back as during WW11 on Holmes beach staring out into the sea as if looking for a lost love, perhaps waiting for her husband to return from the war?

Legend has it that after wandering the beach a bit, the woman walks into the ocean to about waist level and suddenly turns into a sort of morning mist; the mist then follows the shore south where it drifts to other nearby beaches where it then turns into a dark mist and eventually fades away.

It is said that the phenomena of the wandering beach bride in Holmes beach have been reported in some navy charts as far back as during the time of World War II when they were protecting the area from Nazi submarines, and even the navy was unable to explain the mist phenomena that was spotted on Holmes beach.
